Goddess Dhumavati is one of the Ten mahavidyas, she is the seventh important devi of mahavidyas. Dhumavati is described as a old, ugly, Widow. She is depicted as fearsome, restless and wicked. She is also known as the Shakti without Lord Shiva, Smoky form of shakti.

Dhumavati is associated with negative energies such as wicked, unattractive, inauspicious virtues, frustration, sorrows and loneliness. The goddess seated in the horseless chariot or riding a crow, which is the symbol of evil forces & black magic in the cremation ground.she is exemplification of “unsatisfied desires”.She made herself by swallowing Shiva, an act of self assertion and independence. she is the personification of tamas gun which creates lust and ignorance. She is a provider of spirituality , a rescuer of all the problems. she is worshipped to attain various kinds of siddhis (magical powers).

Maa dhumavati puja is performed to remove the effects of malefic planet ketu from the horoscope. This puja is performed for spiritual upliftment and protection from all sorts of negative energies and black magic. She is said to bless the devotee with freedom from all sorts of ketu imbalance.
